Dumb Ai?

I love this game and all, but a couple days ago I was doin a quest that did last about 2 hours....

It was on a co-op quest in solo mode, the enemy retaliated me from the beggining and i managed to survive for about 1 hour with a big defense like walls, fortress and stuff. eventualy I ran out of wood and stone to keep up my defense, so i gave up and went to play ps3 and after 1 hour i go check on my game and there was no more attacks.

All the food and gold on the island were drain out but they didnt touch the stone mines.

My point: the enemy cant use the market to get some gold so, in every impossible quest we just needpatience and wait for the gold to run out?

|||I guess that could work, your probably not doing the quest correctly though if you need to wait for the ai to run out of gold though, all quests are meant to becomplete ablewithin an hour.|||They could presumably build merchant carts and stuff too, no? I am surprised that the AI does not cheat, however, according to this description anyways. I mean, I would have thought there would be triggers like "if wood < 1000, add 5000 wood" or something like it.

The AI doesn't build caravans and wont use merchant ships for trading. A few of the maps that are supposed to be really hard where the enemy sends huge swarms of enemies at you, you only need to hold out for like 10-15 minutes and they run out of resources.

The AI also has serious problems with short sections of wall blocking off natural choke points. There's a few maps where you can make 2-3 short walls and block off half the map, build some towers or forts behind them, then watch the AI have a seizure. They run from one wall to the next without attacking any of them most of the time, and just die to your towers and forts. Even if they have siege engines. Their pathing I think only checks a short area, so they don't recognize that they need to punch through and think they can go around.

|||An even larger AI exploit is how the AI always builds certain buildings in the same spot. Like any map where you are separated from the enemy by water, find their docks, blow it up, then camp a boat offshore at the same spot. The AI will continuously send lone villagers to that same spot to try and rebuild, and your ship will kill it instantly, over and over and over. You don't have to worry about the enemy sending a single raid against you from that point on.

Things haven't changed from AoE2 I guess. Memories of surviving the hard difficulty AI's until they sent light cavalry and pikemen....

Then rolling them with Trebs and castle units. :P

It's too bad there's no non-gold units in AoEO though.

|||Yeah, I guess I am glad about the resources running out on them, there has been a couple of times when it has saved me. I also find it great how they next to never rebuild towncentres(I only ever saw them ever do it on an Argos repeatable quest) so take out there towncentresand the villages will dwindle in number (especially when they seem to like to suicide them trying to buildstorehousesnear/in your base), no villages - only a mater of time till you win XD
