I need Tips for PvP

Ok so i have no multiplayer experience with any AoE games as i would just play single player so i'm trying to transition into PvP / Multiplayer. I like Egypt alot and at the present time my planned strat would be to build walls and towers then build Stables and Fortresses since i don't like Barracks or Infantry. My plan would be to defend as best as i can till he runs low on resources then go finish him off. Maybe Siege down the road. I was kinda thinking some Catapults as well to help cover the towers (and perhaps maybe Palintonon if they would work).

Also how many military buildings do ppl generally build? I like to make 2-5 Stables and 2-5 Fortress (if i can afford that many fortresses).

I have no experience with PvP, but if you are building forts than I wouldn't bother with siege since elephants are better. They also work off the cavalry bonuses you'll probably get for camals earlier.

I dont like your strategy at all...

Units are much better defenders then buildings. A single watchtower may stop an early push of 5 hyppos + 2 archers, but in massive battle even several watchtowers or fortresses cant do significant damage. Their point is high hitpoints, not high DPS. Units will have much more DPS for the same cost. And 5 ranged siege units will ruin your defenses in seconds. And your opponent has map control, which means he can mine wherever he wants while harassing your gold and stone mines that are out of your "fortress".

Plus cavalry can be very easily countered. Hoplites/phalanx own elephants (or any cavalry) while greek T2 cavalry (forgot how its called :) ) shut down your chariot archers.

|||Don't forget walls with archers behind, and gates for cavalry to rush out to counter siege engines. My Egyptian walls get up to 25k health and repair almost instantly from a single villager I can keep nearby. Again I'm not sure how that would work in PvP, but it sounds like it could be effective, and it's uber against the AI.

PvP is completely different then PvE.

Ranged siege out-range towers/fortresses/archers. When you rush with your cavalry in order to eliminate ballistas/catapults your opponent just pulls them back slightly while moving forward his hoplites/phalanx. And dont forget that they have archers too. So your cavalry gonna be hurted anyway while you are unable to do any significant damage to their army with it.

And dont forget that resourses tend to expire. You need to expand to new gold/stone mines in order to produce more units/defenses. If your opponent has at least half of a brain, they wont let you establish new bases. And in the end its gonna be you who runs out of resources, because your opponent has map control and mines wherever he wants.

I dont like AoEO battle videos because due to ugly observation abilities (you cant even see players' resources, upgrades being researched, units being produced etc) there are few sings you can learn from them... only general concepts.

I'm aware PvP is different, while I have no experience with it in this game I have played other RTS games somewhat competitively.

Pulling back the siege only works if they see them coming. I'd probably go out a different gate and flank him.

Also it's very easy to get unlimited resources in this game. 20 villagers on farms and 20 caravans making a short trip between the market and TC (I believe the minimum gold per trip is 8, or that's always what I get when I make them close) means a good unlimited flow of food and gold, which can be converted at the market (upgraded to reduce the penalty), but you only need food and gold to spam elephants.

|||Thats what i was thinking. He can have the entire map and all the resources. sooner or later it will drain and then he has to convert at the market along with me. If your defenses are too good he can't really do much. If you have good defenses and 5-10 stables and 5-10 fortress he should have alot of work cut out for him. A fully armed fortress is a pain and not something you want to be up against.|||http://www.own3d.tv/live/63791/TheMistai stream from times to times take a look .|||

I'm egpyt too and win the majority of my games with this build. It doesn' use any static defences but they arnt needed as early aggresion and good scouting lets you control the game.

first 2 vills on food.

rest on wood and build ASAP in this order

  • temple
  • barracks
  • stables

build 2-4 camels then go harass his villagers using them to keep an eye on his army. Keep building more camels and infantry appropiate to countering his army

When you get the 'temple of set' built pump out charriot archers.

Charriots, camels, elephants, axemen, priests is the game ending mix(though a push as soon as you get charriot archers could take them out)

Okay, here are my thoughts on the matter. You're wasting your time on that strategy. By wasting all the time early in the game your economy is normally a mess and very weak and vulnerable. Walls aren't much good you know, until you can get them upgraded or in certain cases. By spending the first 5 minutes of the game or so gathering stone to wall off your base all the way around your opponent should be strengthening his economy and making troops.

By turtling like that you are just giving away the rest of the map to your opponent. You speak of waiting till your opponent runs out of resources lol, how is that? You're the one stuck in your base whilst he has access to all the resources around and beyond your base. He'll just build up and end you quickly.

In PvP you need to build up, and use a military for defense, don't rely on buildings, with the exception of fortresses. You need to use troops to defend your economy whilst you get build up. By 5 minutes I normally can easily have 3 buildings or so pushing troops out to harrass and attack your base, and with your strategy, you only have weak walls and your vills/TC for defense.

Edit: Btw, your opponent should easily be able to advance to the Heroic Age, what would your strategy do against a few Ballista/Catapults or especially Palintonons...?

Zmista, says it all.

|||Woful: What's the rush lol, wait a little while to age up, that's way to fast. Try aging with at least 9 villagers as Egypt, then continue to train non-stop.|||

not another rush thread :/

|||

The rush is to hit the villagers with camels early :) Its not all-in rush its early camel harassment: those early camels shouldn't be fighting to the death.

Also I should mention the build I listed requires building villagers none stop and fits the rest in as you can afford it.
