Expansion 2 included: 3 new civilizations, 4 new game modes, a new game mechanic (export)

Bundle price: $60

Bundle includes: 14 civilizations, at least 9 game modes, 2 new game mechanics, additional age/units/etc not originally part of the main game, all graphical content included

Age of Empires: Online:

Expansion cost: $5-$20

Expansion 2 ($20) includes: Ability to use items/settings/game
mechanics that are already there but locked, 1 civilization

Expansion 9 ($ 5) includes: Graphical content

Bundle available: Yes

Bundle price: $99

Bundle includes: 4 civilizations, all existing game mechanics/settings/items unlocked, 1 new game mode, all graphical content + 2 unknowns which could be 1) 1 additional civilization 2) 2 new game modes 3) additional graphical content 4) a mix of 2 & 4

Not to beat a dead horse (this game) but I'm that pissed about the pricing. Really look at these two:

Bundle includes: 14 civilizations, at least 9 game modes, 2 new game
mechanics, additional age/units/etc not originally part of the main
game, all graphical content included

vs

Bundle includes: 4 civilizations, all existing game
mechanics/settings/items unlocked, 1 new game mode, all graphical
content + 2 unknowns which could be 1) 1 additional civilization 2) 2
new game modes 3) additional graphical content 4) a mix of 2 & 3

9-10 more civilizations, 6-8 more game modes, 2 new game mechanics, no locked settings/mechanics/items, all graphical content included from the start. All this for $39 less than what they're asking you to pay for AoE:O.

By their current pricing scheme AoE III Complete would have cost AT LEAST $390*.

*($60 base price + $200 for additional civilizations + $80 for game modes + $50 for all graphical assets associated with the civilizations)

People really need to stop with this comparison, AoE 3 is over 5 years old, the expansions were the same price as the civ packs are now.

The only reason it looks fancy to everyone all the sudden is because it costs considerably less now that time has passed, you can get the entire collection for $39 now.

If AoE 3 had come out now and launched with those two expansions you would easily see AoE 3 retail $49 and $29 for each of the expansions, quibble about modes all you want but you know only two modes are ever commonly played and the majority of the upgrades offered by the expansions dont always appeal to all.

Why buy a full expansion to get possibly only one civ you actually want or one new unit you actually like when you can play AoE Online and buy ONLY what you want?

Go away and play AoE 3, Im sure lots of trolls suddenly went back to it and cried.

|||

Just because I have a different opinion than you, does not make me a troll.

I used the prices at release, not current prices. Current prices you can get AoE:3 Complete for $0.10 + shipping/handling ($10).

|||Be happy that the prices are slightly higher. PC games, and the RTS genre in particular, are dying. If this game makes lots of money then it means they will update it with loads more content and support it for years to come.|||All I want for Christmas is a balanced AoE3. :(
|||

That's some twisted logic there Rememberthis123. Uninformed too.

Edit: oh and btw... you'll have to pay extra for all that content you're hoping for. Enjoy your [to become] $400 game, I'm going to enjoy the 30+ games I can get for the same price.

|||

Aside from buying a civ and the crete pack thats all I intend to get until the celts are released, and thats if I even still play the game by then so it only cost me $30.

Still half the cost of a retail console game and roughly $10-19 less than a retail PC title, u mad?

That's pretty funny. I shouldn't laugh, though. Some people might actually hit that figure sometime next year.

Comparing Age of Empires IIIto Age of Empires Online isn't possible is it?

lol

Pricing aside, they have some similar game mechanics, for sure. But all the b.s. they added,all that is lacking, and whatever bright idea is to come next,makes this a landslide victory for Age of Empires III.

Age of empires online = fun

Age of empires 3 = worst AOE game.

|||AoE III was just a random AoE I picked. The argument still applies with AoE 1,2, AoM etc as well just the numbers are slightly different (in all cases AoE/AoM are significantly cheaper.

Well then try playing the older titles online, see how far that goes. I'll be waiting to hear your results, cause you'll have to either play the crappy AoE 3 or Play AoEO to be able to play an AoE game now, unless you want to play by yourself, and if thats the case then your argument holds no weight.

You cant sit there and argue that AoE 1,2,AoM,etc are cheaper when you cant even play them online anymore, thats WHY they are cheaper, not to mention they've been out since like what....1996-1999?

Thats like saying the NES is better than PS3 because you can get one at a garage sale for $1, you realize how stupid that sounds?

|||Age of Empires Online is the winer here!, AOEIII IS A GOOD GAME BUT.... DEAD! LIKE AOE1 AND AOEII THAT'S LIFE MY FREND, PROGRES IS THE FUTURE! AND I LIKE PROGRES.|||

Heh, well I just have to say that I've spent $40 on AOEO and won't spend more until I know if I want Celts/Persia, and I spent, I believe, $140 on AOE3 stuff. Both day 1 buys for me: AOEO:$40 , AOE3 : $60.

Also, you cannot say AOE3 collection is $60, because that is irrelevant, you must consider that that set came out 5 years after AOE3.

|||I spent $30 dollars on AoEO. U mad?

Zylo: All AoE/AoM titles prior to this one had IP based multiplayer included so as long as you have a system that can play them and someone to play them with you can keep playing them indefinitely. That said, the value in AoE was always the single player campaigns for me.

IamSoldieR: That's true, 4 years after the original came out the collection was available. But then again if you do a strict date based comparison you'd just be comparing the 2 civs, 1 booster, and the graphics packs against the main AoE 3 and not including later expansions for either game. The comparison is still pretty crappy from a value perspective.
