server maintenance?

I really don't get the devs or whoever makes the server maintenance statements.

How can you state that the maintenance will happen "tomorrow (8/29)" in the server login message? That's two conflicting statements as tomorrow is 8/30 and 8/29 is today.

If you're going to inform us of maintenance and other downtimes you have to update the message each day to fit with the current day.

Also, in a future patch, perhaps you'd want to add a ingame clock that's universal for everybody, that way people can easily see when you're planning to do the maintenance, since we have all the special summer time etc. attached to gmt, so it's not always gmt+1 for mid europe I think.

Right now I have no idea if the maintenance happens in 10minutes, in 1h10mins or tomorrow...

Atleast a countdown or warning or some kind other than a vague message upon login.

|||It says Monday, so if you are in a a reality that 8/30 is a Monday then I think we got bigger issues.|||

I think the message was posted yesterday, the reason why it is labelled as "tomorrow".

We do agree that they need to be clearer for the maintenance and downtime announcements. Side note and detail I know, but times in GMT would be nice too, for Europeans... I know it's written GMT -7 but I'm lazy, and as I dont live in GMT+0 it requires me to do very complicated maths, which arent easy in the morning before drinking some coffee or in the evening after drinking wine :P

|||I have noticed quite a few people being confused by the GMT thinking that it was going down 40 minutes ago at what would be four here, but in reality it isn't until 5 here due to the fact of daylight saving time things|||

@hamparr0

Indeed, while we -should- be able to work it out ourselves based on gmt-7, why make us do that hassle when sometimes, it's not always +8 hours for gmt+1, etc?

Just post in gmt and in US times, or better yet, make the ingame universal realm clock, that way people wanting to meet up for pvp or whatever arrangements can easily say, "we'll meet online at 20:00/8pm server time"... Cake.

No shame in copying things that work well in other games :P

I like how theres no warning to when its actually going down. lol. You're playing and its just *poof* server down.

|||

I agree too, in french version, we also have the message saying downtime is tomorrow and no information on this downtime in the french forum... So what a surprise to be disconnected.

|||

Instead of "tomorrow", use only the Date + Day, and add an in-game clock that is the same for everyone. (Server time). That would work great and everyone would be happy :D

|||The biggest problem is their scheduling of downtimes @ EU primetimes. -_-|||

It would be awesome if they put an in game clock that had the server time, but until that happens this is what I use to keep track of the time zones:

It's something they should add in the future. A proper warning, at least 15 mins before the downtime.

I agree with Kryptophoros, some kind of message stating it's going down in 1hr then every 15mins afterwards is enough time to prepare. Should be in a form of a sound notification along with message.

@Thookrull

Indeed, it really is game design basics here :)
