The games cartoony graphics

Why do so many people have to complain about the game having cartoony graphics? I really like it and since it's cartoony, the game would have younger people play with more experienced players. Plus the original video games were made for fun, the graphics had 8-bit depth but lot's of people had tons of fun with the games. People just get so worked up over nothing, again,it's just for the fun, not the graphics.

|||Agreed. I love the cartoony graphics. Content > Graphics.
|||The graphics are fine. League of Legends (one of the largest Online games at the moment) has cartoony graphics and is making $$$
|||

I just wish that people would be happy with the game.

|||

Yeah this whole arguement is stupid to me. I mean you look at any of the other AOE games, and their graphics were downright awful, yet people complain about this game when the graphics look 10 x's better?

It's not like this is a game where you are staring at character's faces. You are zoomed out, controlling swarms of characters all at once. It really doesn't look that much different than AOE2 or 3, but you know, people just have to act like they know everything and if they were in charge everything would be better, which is probably the farthest thing from the truth.

|||You make a good point, because nobody should be in charge of EVERYTHING in the world. It's exactly what happened to the Greek Empire, the Roman Empire, and the British Empire. The phrase "The sun never sets on the British Empire" was created because when the sun set in one part of the empire, the sun was up in another part. The reason they we're eventually defeated was because they we're too spread out. And there could only be so many people guarding their empires borders, and as soon as the empires enemies broke through the defenses, then the empire is vulnerable.|||

It's clear that you don't understand what people are complaining about.

Nobody cares about the number of polygons that each model uses, they care about the graphical style. If you look at the units you can see that upper bodies and heads are huge but the legs are chicken legs. Parts of buildings are exaggerated and disproportional. All of this makes the game look childish.

|||speaking of games i played in my childish years, settlers 3, my all time favorite. this game reminds my of it every time i play it, and love it for that reason.|||I don't mind that cartoon style, but wish the buildings/etc were a little more detailed. I understand the grievances though because it contributes to the silly tone that this game has compared to the previous ones. The developers of the original AOE realized that history has great story lines for and embraced that for their game. This game would be better if it would follow that lead and take its subject matter a bit more seriously.
|||

At least younger people can enjoy it. Does anybody even look at the games ratings anymore? It's rated E10+, for mild violence.

|||

You also have to understand that the people complaining are most likely people who "drool" over the unreal engine (which I hate, it looks weird to me). I like this art style because it is apparent what they wanted to go with, and they accomplished it. Many developers try to make their games look a "real" as they can or make it look like gears of war.

To be concise, I love this style. some people don't, but I don't care. Some people gotta hate, so they hate.

|||nobody complains about the graphics anymore, they complain now about the payment system
|||

Nobody is complaining how "real" it looks. The complaints are for the style.

Style doesn't have anything to do with graphical complexity, it has to do with the art direction.

For some reason none of you guys understand this.

|||I'm really digging the cartoony graphics.|||

It is not people that just get worked up over nothing. It's antisocial weirdos that hide behind computers (yes they do exist in large numbers) work up over nothing.
