Age of Empires Online will lose progress of your quest if at any time you are disconnected or signed out from the servers (even by switching on your Xbox and logging into Xbox Live), even if it's just a router hiccup on your side. So you can be 30 mins into a quest and if you disconnect, you will lose all your progress and have to restart the mission.
I really want to get invested in this game, but I always feel like I need to complete a mission as quickly as possible otherwise I will lose my progress. Please add the feature of resuming a quest in case of disconnection (maybe with a 15 minute timeout), otherwise I won't be able to play! Not everyone has perfect internet connection, and a connection can be prone to any number of external factors which can cause it to disconnect momentarily.

WRONG if you have already completed a quest, even if you haven't left the map yet the quest is recorded as completed. Otherwise I would rather GPG work on more pressing issues right now so, no petition for me.
|||signed|||/signRidiculous oversight by the developers. I just hope they can fix it. I was reading a kotaku interview where they said they could not fix any pathing issues as it was tied too deply to the engine...|||Guys, hate to break it to you but with a game like AoEo where almost all of the game data is stored on the server this kind of mid game save isn't possible. Especially due to the randomness of most accidental sign outs.|||
Unfortunately, this is probably not possible. I'm assuming that all the quests and pvp battles are simply "spawned instances" of maps that have a very temporary disposition on the server. Once you leave the instance for any reason, the instance is decommissioned and the resources are reclaimed by the server.
|||It's not only theoretically possible, it shouldn't even be hard. If the maps are randomly generated, save the seeds for the RNG and you have it fixed. Then, simply save the actions performed by all players as if it is a replay. When you need to load, simply play through the replay at high speed until you are at the point of disconnect, and let the player resume from there. Of course, if the player is dropped, they would not be able to micro or macro for say 10 seconds, but that's usually a small price to pay compared to having to restart the game.|||signed|||
Signed.
I once had a bad-internet evening... Quests and PvP disconnects were pretty distracting :(
|||I don't see how to resume PvP disconnects though, to be honest. The only fair way there is to award a loss. As for quest, I got bitten by it myself when my ISP decided to suck, but since I tend to plow through the missions in my level pretty quickly, I only lost like 15 minute game time. Still, it's something that can be, and should be done.|||
It was a huge oversight not to incorporate an in quest save feature in case of a lost connection.
I definitely agree; there should be some in quest save feature in case of dropped connection (for the single player campaign at least; might be difficult if doing co-op or PvP, but still possible e.g. pause game for all parties and allow 10-20 seconds for reconnect of the party that lost connection).
The speculations by some about the posibilities of implementing this are useless since only the developers know what is possible with their creation.

Ihopesomeone from GPG or MScan comment on this issue, so the community knows, for sure, if it's possible and if it is planned for a future patch, speculations by people that have not worked on the game are not helping anyone.

PvP disconnects should mean a loss - because a resume from disconnect option would lead to lots of abuse.
However, PvE content (single player and co-op) should allow a few minutes, maybe 300 seconds, to try and reconnect to continue the game after internet connection loss.
|||Thanks for the clarification, I've updated my main post about.
I think it's an important issue for GPG to look at, it affects a large portion of people at least a few times during their time playing.
Signed.
I've already stopped playing because of this. Wasted enough time already, and the problem is not at my end.
Talked to several people in my guild (in WoW) who are avid RTS fans (Starcraft mostly but some oldschool AoE'ers too) and they've all been experiencing the same issues and they've also all stopped playing. Only one of them bought Premium before noticing the problem, so lucky for them.. I wasn't so lucky.
I really hope GPG will solve this swiftly or I fear this game will die much too soon. And that would be a real shame, since at least I thoroughly enjoy playing it as long as it works. :)
