Yes, you can definitely enjoy this solo. However, the multiplayer aspect of this game is amazing to. There currently aren't any clans/guilds anyway. Try it out for awhile since it's free anyway then decide. Plus, you can meet some people that might have close to the same schedule as you if you want to try out the PvP or Co-op.
Personally, I do most of my quests solo as of right now and love it. I do help some people I've meet out with their quests if they need a Co-op partner and it really does add alot to the game.
|||You will.
90% of the quests can be played solo. I play most of my time solo. Have only started to do coop a few days ago with a guy I met ingame: it's really fun!
The multiplayer part doesnt mean playing against others. It can be also playing with others.
And even solo you can profit from the open market of your server and see what people are buying/selling.
|||Honestly, this game was made for you. You're probably a lot like me. I could beat the computer in the old AOE games by building a Wonder, but I could never get good enough to play against others. I am not and never was very good at micro-managing the units very well.
This game has quests. You'll find the starting quests to be very easy, kind of like a tutorial, since you already know how to play an RTS. You'll start getting some real challenges around Level 10. You'll probably buy a premium civilization ($20) by then and really get into collecting buildings and decorations for your city. I bought the Greek decoration packs for $5 each.
They also have repeatable quests. Since I am slow, I don't like the repeatable quests that reward crafting materials, but I have a couple of them down to under 30 minutes. Even though some of the repeatable quests are pretty fun, especially the tower-defense type quests, there's really no need to repeat quests (as far as I know at Level 18). I just discovered there was a different city (Mycenae) that had a bunch more quests in it.
So, I have a feeling that this game could give you many, many hours of enjoyable gameplay. I'd also recommend upgrading one of your Civilizations to the premium version for $20, especially if you think you'd like expanding your main capitol city.
P.S. I didn't explicitly say it in this post, but I've only flown solo, so far, and I have not done any PvP.
|||I think it really depends on what you liked about the previous AoE games. If you liked the campaigns, I would say you would also like this game.
On the other hand, if you were more into doing skirmishes, this might not be for you. Since you mention super casual, I'm guessing you're looking for a skirmish experience.
Being primarily a skirmish player in the past, I can say that this game does not (and will not) have a good skirmish set up. Skirmish mode is not available currently, of course, but even when it is released, I doubt the old skirmish players will be all that interested.
Generally, a skirmish player likes to try all different civs across all enemy combos, maps, difficulties, etc. A skirmish player is going to be unhappy without at least 3 civs to tinker with. That's going to cost $20 + $20 + $20 + $10 skirmish = $70. Too much. From what I've played so far, F2P civs do not have the diversity that premium civs do. Imagine an AoM civ without the ability to choose major or minor gods. F2P AoEO is just like an AoM with literally only 3 civs.
you need to play for a couple of hours just to unlock pvp. then to compete AT ALL with other players (i.e. having unlocked age 3 and all the units needed to counter everything - i've lost count of the number of times i've been matched against a level 5-7 and they hadn't even unlocked a stable in order to counter my tox rush.even if the rush failsany player under level 10 can't really do much if i go to age 3 and spam vills from 4 TCs, their eco has no chance of keeping up) you need to put in several more hours. to unlock the whole tech tree is about 40 hours total. to kit up your empire (even just with decent non-premium items) fully is going to take even longer.
in short, if you want a reasonably fair pvp match, you're going to have to play for a long time. it's not much of a casual game any more.
|||The game is great for single players but if you hate repetition then I'd look elsewhere.
|||Yes of course you will. Game is made for solo player, but pvp or multi quest are also great.|||Go Co-op, I did my first today with a guy in chat and tbh it was a *** funny on elite - darn ai nuked our butts first time then we got our act together on 2nd try ;)|||
i consider myself to be a solo player. and im enjoying it.
every once in a while before starting a quest, ill look in the LFG tab in chat and see if anyones linked a quest im on.. and if so ill try joining them.. just makes things go faster.. but at lvl 18 now, and everythings been super easy to solo..... except for when i tried switching a quest to elite though.... i got smoked =P
